We had the opportunity to host a number of clubs at our head race in September. It was beautiful weather and the energy and excitement was very noticeable. Due to amazing support from across the membership of GRC, we were able to have volunteers at all key stations to run the event safely and efficiently. We were also able to enter a few GRC crews in the races, a few of which won their events.
Well done in the first division to the Open Restricted 2 Quad who powered past a neat crew from George Watson’s College. Congratulations also to the Women’s Masters Double who came up against a strong crew from Clydesdale to win.
In the second division, congratulations go to our Women’s Restricted 2 Quad who sped down the course to beat a very capable Strathclyde University Boat Club crew from just down the water. Also congrats to the Glasgow Academy/GRC composite crew who won their Women’s Novice Coxed Quad event beating, among others, our own GRC crew. We were also able to boat in the Open Double Sculls in an uncontested event.
The event was great, feedback from all clubs was very positive and we look forward to welcoming back everyone next year to grow the event and the sport at club level in Scotland.
The sun came out and regatta season kicked off in style with Clyde Power Sprints on 20th April. Glasgow Rowing Club had a strong presence on the course with entries in multiple events.
First on the water were Cameon and Dan in ONov 2x. They put in a good effort but lost out to the more experienced crew from Castle Semple.
We then had our first guaranteed medal in ONov 1x where it was GRC vs GRC. Ruairi came away with the win this time against Rylan. Will we see a rematch later in the season..?

Last weekend, 23 members of the club headed up North to Inverness for the Caley Marina Fours and Small Boats Head 2023. With 4 divisions of racing, approximately 150 boats in each division and most clubs in Scotland (plus Tees from the North of England) attending, it’s the largest time trial race in Scotland.

Joe and Katie recently travelled to Turin, Italy to compete in an International Mixed Ability Sporting event (IMAS). They competed with adaptive rowers from Stratford upon Avon, Ross on Wye and Cork against atheletes for the host club Armida, other areas of Italy, Spain and Portugal.
As well as enjoying the event, they managed to pick up some international silverware (medals). Joe won Silver in the Quad, Silver in the Double and Bronze in another Quad. Katie won Gold in the Quad and Silver in both the Double and her Single.
Amazing achievements from two excellent athletes and GRC representatives.
