Clyde River Level (from the SEPA web site)

8/6/06 All individuals boating from Glasgow Rowing Club must follow these guidelines:

  • Do not go on the water, in a crew or in a single scull, if you are unsure of your ability to handle the boat. That includes having an experienced cox, or a steersperson in the case of coxless boats  - if in doubt, ask a more experienced club member for advice.
  • Do not go on the water if you are unsure of your ability to handle the conditions of river and weather - if in doubt, ask a more experienced club member for advice.
  • Do not row further upstream than the top end of Belvidere straight.
  • Sign out on the white board between the main shutters. This is particularly important for small boats taking to the water at 'quiet' times on the river. Remember to scrub your name off again on your return!

Also, if you are involved in an incident that could have resulted in injury, or damage to a boat - for example a capsize - please report the incident as soon as possible to a member of the committee.

If you are involved in an incident that does result in injury, or damage to a boat - you MUST report the incident as soon as possible to a member of the committee, and fill out an incident report form.

NB - We now have three of these lifejackets.

We have purchased a lifejacket that can be worn by rowers and scullers. Some information about it is in this document. It is a new design that has been developed jointly by the manufacturers and the A.R.A. It is meant to be usable by rowers and is particularly meant for use by children and beginners.

The one we have is an 'automatic' model. This is recommended, as in the event of the wearer being immersed, it will automatically inflate and keep the wearer upright in the water.
Once we've established that this is suitable for our purposes we will decide whether to buy some more of the same, or alternatively the 'manual' model that requires the wearer to pull a toggle to inflate the device.

The lifejacket is normally stored on one of the hooks on the right side of the disabled toilet in the boathouse.
