Henley Big Blade has lots more like this of Daniel at Henley.

UPDATE: Logans, easily
Regatta Radio have removed the 'Videprinter' results. Shame.
28/6/06On-line
The on-line reporting from Henley (see below) seems to work well, although there has been little 'live' commentary so far. The 'Videprinter' (link on the main page) is particularly good for up-to-date results.
27/6/06Henley Commentary
Live race commentary will apparently be available on-line from Regatta Radio. They say RealAudio is required; it appears to work with iTunes, but the sound quality is poor - and there are adverts.
Other than that, it's great.
24/6/06Henley draw
- Good luck, Daniel!
The Henley draw has been published. Daniel is racing at Henley for the first time, in a composite crew with Walton RC. They have the first of hopefully five races on Thursday, in the Fawley (Junior 4x event).
21/6/06Quickly!
Following the cancellation of Nithsdale (see below), there is the option of racing at Talkin' Tarn Regatta on the 1st of July.
This is a great regatta to take part in, and the journey time is very slightly more than that to Dumfries.
ENTRIES TO A.S.A.P!
Women.....
Someone pointed out this item on BBC R4 about women in rowing. Not sure how long the audio track will be available.
20/6/06Quality press.
A mention for Lindsay in this piece about Poznan by The Herald's .
Henley Qualifiers.
The full list is here. Daniel's crew in the Fawley is "not required to qualify"; i.e. they're already in the draw.
18/6/06Nithsdale
Just received news that the regatta has had to be cancelled due to lack of entries.
17/6/06Poznan update Lindsay and Antonia finished 4th in the 'B' final - so the 10th best boat in the world! Latest from PoznanUPDATED Results page.
The winners:
Paul, PT, Sam, and
Stephen
- and Josh,
prize-presenter.
GRC TTT
A select band of competitors enjoyed ideal conditions on the Clyde this afternoon.
The winning team was Sam Green, Steven Goldie, Peter Trenchard and Paul Ingram.
Prizes were presented by Ronnie Goldie, ably assisted by Josh Green.
Pictures soon! p.s. No-one fell in, and everyone stood up!
15/6/06Lindsay's GB debut! (Delayed from last month)
The WC regatta from Poznan starts today.
Henley entries have now been announced.
No Al this year, but Daniel is representing us in a Walton/GRC composite in the Fawley (Junior 4x event). Qualifiers will be announced on Monday.
14/6/06Saturday 1
Can everyone who's interested in taking part in the GRC Team Time Trial this Saturday please let know ASAP?
Remember - you don't have to stand up, you can do something easier, if you prefer!
Saturday 2
VOLUNTEERS required to assemble/drive/populate the GRC 'float' (Kenny's Van) at this year's Gorbals Fayre on Saturday.
"The parade will leave the Playbarn, Abbotsford Place at 11am."
Nithsdale Regatta - 24/6/06
All entries for Nithsdale Regatta to by THURSDAY lunchtime please (just realised entries close on Friday!). Poster, Events List,
Event Information.
12/6/06Just Champion! Daniel kept the GRC flag flying at the weekend, with his victories in Junior sculls and Intermediate sculls. Jonny (twice - Open and Lightweight 1x) and the Novice Women both turned in good 3rd place performances. Russell and Malcolm had a hard race to make their final, beating the next crew by less than half a second!
That was comfortable, compared to the "Gurlz" rush to the line in their heat when they made the final qualifying place with the last stroke of the race by all of 0.16 sec! Results. Photos (more welcome)
and a new CAPTION COMPETITION!
8/6/06Safety - just do it!
Further to the recent email regarding the Committee Meeting of June 7, here is a reminder of the white board policy, as originally set out in February 2005.
Further reading here.
7/6/06Changes to draw
The Championships draw has been changed.
Afraid I don't have the facility to colour-code the new PDF file.
5/6/06Boat loading etc. Sandy is towing the trailer to Strathclyde Park this weekend.
He MUST be there on time to start his official duties, so it is important that there is no last-minute faffing!
Boat loading will be at 7:15 SHARP on Saturday morning.
Make sure your boats are de-rigged before Saturday.
Make sure you have all the riggers you need (!) and that they are tied together.
Don't forget - seats, cox-boxes, lifejackets, tools, trestles... etc.
AT LAST - the draw has been published - please check it and let know a.s.a.p if there is any error or omission.
All details are on the SARA web site, or you can use this colour-coded version.
30/5/06We've all been there
But now, there appears to be a solution to that age-old predicament.
Thanks to Kenny for the link.
Team Time Trial - 17 June
Details have yet to be finalised, but the basic idea is described here.
Keep your schedule clear for an afternoon of fun, frolic, fierce competition and falling in!
29/5/06Entries now closed
has sent in our entry for the Scottish Champs.
Munich
There are reports in all the usual places on the GB performance at the World Cup.
(Including video like this.)
If you watched on Saturday, you may have seen Scotland's own Mr Peter Morrison presenting his compatriot Ms Grainger with her medal for the W4x. No picture yet.
26/5/06Nae luck!
The run of bad luck continues; following Lindsay's withdrawal from the World Cup event in Munich (below), Daniel has had to pull out of the Nat Schools due to illness.
23/5/06Lindsay rows for GB!
- but not this week! Unfortunately, Lindsay's double sculling partner is unable to race and they have had to withdraw from the event in Munich this weekend.
19/5/06Fame at last!
I'm sure it must make all the pain worthwhile - the final seal of approval for Lindsay; this column by The Herald's !
REMEMBER!
Scottish Champs -

18/5/06World Cup Crews
On the World Rowing (FISA) site, all crews for this month's regatta in Munich have been announced - Lindsay is in the 2nd GB lightweight double (on page 23).
Totally Rowing
The only disappointing bit about this Evening Times article is that Jonny doesn't get a name check - and Funky Dunky does!
Boat loading tonight! At least 50% of each crew will need to be there - or those boats and oars will not be loaded!
The draw has been published;
all GRC races are in this document
(There is one entry missing: it is being followed-up)
SARA Awards Dinner
More details of this are now on the SARA News page.
14/5/06Lindsay rows for GB!
News on the SARA site that Lindsay has been selected for the GB Team for the World Cup Regatta in Munich on 25-27 May.
This will be the first time that any GRC rower has competed at this level; and it may be an unprecedented achievement for a home-based athlete, with previous Scottish GB Team members having been part of London- or Nottingham-based squads.
12/5/06Semple regatta
(Details here on the GRC Google group. Can't access it? Try this.)
Entries close this weekend. Get them to now!!
11/5/06Would it work here?A little news item from far afield.
There's also this!
9/5/06Ghent success
Lots of stuff on the SARA web site about Scottish successes in Ghent at the weekend. Most notable wasDanielwinning Silver and Bronze on successive days from a large and talented international field. Well done.(Results: Sat, Sun.)
1/5/06Mayday!
Clydesdale entries - no published draw yet, but most events are going ahead - except Vet pairs; no-one brave enough to take on FC & TK!
28/4/06Last chance!(s)

There are still spaces at 8 a.m.! Email

26/4/06'Rowing' news
You can try bookmarking this link for a daily-changing and eclectic mixture of web-based items that have 'rowing' in them.
25/4/06Well done Daniel. Daniel Prescott has followed on from Lindsay Dick's outstanding performance at the Senior GB trials last week (3rd lightweight, see below) by finishing 6th in the GB Junior trial at the weekend.
SPR Results
The full results, including (most) times and crew names are on the SARA web site.
Remember - regatta dates
C'dale regatta (local) on 6 May - entries to by Friday morning
and
NE Regatta (Aberdeen, 13/14 May) - any entries by next week.
Are you being served?
No - I'm not still in 'Catering' mode!
If you are reading this and you do not receive any email from GRC, that's because you haven't started using the GRC Google Group (current and past members only). This is the main method for keeping members informed about GRC matters. Details are here.
Peter C, Russell,
Malcolm and Kenny
Thanks to Joe for these pictures from SPR, including this of our winning Vet Quad.
From Ronnie:
"a BIG thank you to all who helped over the weekend at SPR. The effort was tremendous...
Overall it was an excellent weekend's work by all !!!"
Great Regatta

17/4/06From the SARA website: Lindsay is again up there with Ms Grainger, as one of four Scots going forward to the final GB trials. Latest news. (also here)
After 1st round, Lindsay was 2nd lightweight sculler.
Then 2nd in the semi, going through to the 'A' final.
(i.e. Lindsay is well placed in the top 6 at this stage for GB selection.)
An 'URGENT' request from SARA:
Briefly - volunteers needed for stakeboats.
BUT - GRC's need is greater! We need EVERYONE to help with the catering effort on Saturday and Sunday.
14/4/06A book at bedtime?
An anonymous club member spied this on Amazon.
13/4/06SPR - 22 and 23 April
The draft rota for our catering operation at the park is now ready. It will change - dependant on yet-to-be-announced race times.
If you want to swap 'slots' with someone else, please arrange it with them and then tell that you have done so!
11/4/06SPR - Entries
has today delivered all of the GRC entries for SPR.
The draw is being made on Saturday.
7/4/06Capsize drill
No news is good news - the drill is still planned for Saturday afternoon at Blantyre. If there are any changes all efforts will be made to get in touch.
Update
No more news, other than this on the BBC web site.
More (good) news.
BReid spotted this article in the Herald.
Apparently, the dead birds are not avian flu victims.
NB - this item is in no way connected to The Herald's!
6/4/06Bird Flu on the Clyde?
News is breaking that a dead swan has been found in Richmond Park.
If confirmed, we might have issues with access to the river in the short term, although if the DEFRA guidelines are followed, this should not be the case.
Precautions -
Avoid touching dead birds and bird droppings.
Wash your hands immediately after an outing, and definitely before touching food.
Normal disinfectant (eg Dettol) is absolutely sufficient - there is no need to use anything special, and antibacterial washes are useless since bird 'flu is a virus.
(Thanks to RQ for this bit.)
SPR - be prepared!
Strathclyde Park Regatta is on 22/23 April - two weeks away.
ENTRIES must be with by Monday morning at 10:00, as they will be going in the post then.
ALL HANDS will also be required to assist with the catering operation: 6 hours from everyone over the weekend, PLEASE.
31/3/06Disruption! As mentioned on the SARA site, there is work scheduled - to start this weekend and continuing for several weeks - on the Weir, Polmadie Bridge and Dalmarnock Bridge.
This will cause major disruption to the normal use of the river, beginning with work just above the weir this weekend. Crews should avoid the bottom half of the 500m straight, turning at the viewing platform rather than at the weir itself.
26/3/06Blade Painting This note from our resident artist.
25/3/06 HoRR results.
GUBC 51 and 5th Uni.
Clyde Amateurs (with at least one ringer...) 102.
24/3/06Erg-tastic! We were successful in our bid to buy 2 ergos from SARA.
Now... where do you want me to put them, Missus?
Maybe this time.... Johnny keeps passing up the TV opportunities, but here's another - this time he needs to go and live with Henry in London. (Thanks to theSlug.)
22/3/06Tideway Head - this weekend. No GRC crews in either main or Vet's event this year, sadly. This article is worth a look (thanks to the Slug for the link). Good luck to GUBC - starting 37 and with a serious chance of winning the University prize.
It's a Winter Wonderland!
Why bother going abroad for winter sports, when the Clyde has this to offer?
20/3/06Catch-up time.A few items that have not been reported while I was otherwise engaged, pounding the French alps into submission:
Congratulations to PT, whose one-man border raid resulted in a win in VE singles at the Yorkshire Head.
A quick look at the WEHoRR results gives food for thought...
SARA want you to buy tickets for their annual Awards dinner, and are prepared to use Bob Neill's retirement as an excuse.
Strathclyde Park Regatta - we have 'won' the tender to do the catering at SPR on 22 and 23 April.
We will need as many as 30 people each day to pull it off, so please keep your diaries free.
10/3/06Yorkshire Head
Wish PT luck, as he single-handedly flies the GRC colours in the Yorkshire Republic.
Entry feesFC would appreciate it if all last week's competitors could cough up their entry fees a.s.a.p. (Even me?)
7/3/06Bob the Bunnet goes national!
In today's Slug.
Thanks to theClyde Amateurs again for this action shot of the two oldest competitors in Saturday's 2nd division.
No pictures of our victorious 8 - unless someone out there sends me some.
6/3/06C'dale Head
- first wins for Bob 'n' Ben ! The GRC Vet 8 won, beating Castle Semple at the finish line. In the second race, the Vet 'E' four had a shaky row, but were unopposed.
No other club crews took part. Full results.
Some you win.....
...some you lose!
Our occasional photographic contributor, Mark McKay, passed on these photos of the recent head races.
And Daniel has adjusted this photograph , to match his view of the Vet C 8.
He obviously isn't training hard enough.
5/3/06The Lord Giveth....It was written that the children of GRC should assemble by the house of the boats at the hour before mid-day, to take oars against the Semple-ites.
But when the hour arrived, their number was not great (i.e. 7 plus cox). And it came to pass that they called upon theClap-iteto sit in the place ofPete the Shi-itewho was not there.
And Lo! - did the Lord smile upon the children of GRC and He sent a mighty crab to smite the Semple-ites, and He did bestow Pennants on all of His children, even untoBob who has not a T-shirt.
But unto Pete the Shi-ite who was late, He bestoweth only a flood to take away the shoes from his feet.
Here endeth the lesson.
2/3/06C'dale 4s HeadFinal race details
- judging from the boating arrangements (on the SARA web site), they obviously don't want us to get any visitors this weekend!
28/2/06C'dale 4s Head Start list is published.
No competition for GRC Vet 4 (not for the first time!).
27/2/06Told you!(Check the video link, too.)Did anyone hang around to watch?
Any stories or pictures?
22/2/06The Big BangThis is FACT - not just a theory. Read this.
21/2/06Yorkshire terriers?Who's going to support PT in his role as GRC ambassador?: " 'The Club' (me) is going to the Yorkshire Head. Why not ask if anyone else wants to go?I can put a second 1x on the roof with a borrowed rack, or the trailer could go if there is sufficient interest and someone to tow.
Saturday 25th will be the deadline. Here's a linkto the poster. I'm told they usually get 100+ in each division.
Peter Trenchard "
Very Low-key A notice was received (20/2) regarding a series of SUBC Student v. Alumni (i.e. thin vs fat) 8s races on Saturday (25/2). Thanks for letting us know!Be careful after 12 noon, as there are 3 eights races planned, from the white footbridge to the Weir.
19/2/06Inverness HeadResults - both divisions. Very prompt! PT was our only representative, but had a nasty dose of the Willies. (WB).
17/2/06Not the FISA Masters
The Vichy people have produced Bulletin 2 (BIG file) for their rival event in September. (See also Munich, below.)

Lindsay recorded the 3rd best lightweight time at the GB squad trial. According to the all-important '% of Gold Medal time', she out-performed a number of our Athens 2004 athletes.
(Not to be outdone, Daniel also won one of his two SUBC Head races.)
Safety.
There is a new lifejacket available for trainee scullers.

26/01/06Road works aheadThere are works planned to take place on the river - at Polmadie Bridge and the Tidal Weir - that are likely to affect all river users, to some degree.
No dates or detail yet.
The club is involved in discussions with the other Clyde clubs and with GCC Land Services dept.
25/01/06More ARA
There's a further response - from someone who was involved - to the ARA's alleged economy with the actualit on The Slug.
24/01/06Water Safety
The ARA (English rowing's governing body) has published correspondence relating to two Coroners' inquests that were held last year. In both cases, a rower drowned while training. Related links:
theLeo Blockley memorialweb site (including the very informative 'Cold Water Survival' document),
* NB - this document incorrectly refers to the Glasgow Humane Society as being an 'Authority' on the river. This is not the case.
17/01/06From Rec.sport.rowing, in response to a question about clubs near Tunbridge Wells : "I've met a lot of members from Bewl Bridge - especially on the Masters circuit....... I've been lucky enough to receive some very patient coaching from one of their members, when I was a very nervous Novice.
Ask for Dave."
Can this be....?
Racing Licences. If you want to race in any heads - please get your completedapplication form to a.s.a.p!
It's clear that the Convener of the SARA Race Control Committee is taking no prisoners this year!
It's a bit quiet for news just now.
Does anyone have any requests?
13/01/06Lazy journalism I've been reduced to stealing news from other websites:
From SARA -
"Scottish Indoor Champs: Reminder that the entries for the Scottish Indoor Champs close on January 27th."
3/01/06Happy New Year! There's a note on the GRCNews group about racing licences for 2006 - get your application to pronto!
