Glasgow Rowing Club was formed on 4 December 1983 by the amalgamation of Glasgow Argonauts Boat Club (founded in 1924) and City of Glasgow Rowing Club (founded in 1965 - formerly The Printers Rowing Club founded early 1900s).

Glasgow Rowing Club fully appreciates the tremendous natural asset which is on our doorstep - the River Clyde. We wish to promote this within the City of Glasgow and the Gorbals community and to let others share in this very under-valued facility.

All levels of participation are welcomed - from the casual participant wishing a leisurely row on the river in the good weather, to the very serious who go all the way to National Representation.

The club has a wide-ranging membership; from school members as young as 12 through to veterans who have been claiming their bus passes for quite some time. Men's and women's crews row at novice and senior levels and race with sculls, pairs, quads and eights.

The club works with local schools providing coaching and outings for new members.

The club is active throughout the year. Although rowing is at its best on a fine summer's day, there are plenty of die hard enthusiasts who can be found out in all weathers.

Although Saturday is the busiest day of the week, members are busy with club activities throughout the week, and often use the club to workout using the rowing machines and other gym facilities.

Several of the more experienced club members are often found coaching individuals and teams. The club also welcomes those who cox boats or generally take pleasure in shouting at others.

The river Clyde that runs from the Weir close to the centre of the city out to the East has undergone a transformation in recent years and is now a haven for wildlife. Rowers are regularly having to compete for space on the river with swans, ducks, otters, herons and even a fresh-water seal.

The club is grateful to its sponsors and its committee who give cash and time to ensure the continuing success of the Glasgow Rowing Club.
