GRC 2006 Team Time Trial
Saturday 17 June 2006

|
|
The Saturday after the Scottish
Championships, and all GRC members have the
chance to compete for a much greater accolade
- you can be part of the first-ever winning
team at the GRC Team Time Trial!
The format is not finalised yet, but it will
be something like this;
|
|
1. The course:
|
Approximately 250 metres long, the course is
a figure-of-eight around 2 buoys positioned
upstream and downstream of the GRC
steps.
|
|
2. The teams:
|
Each team consists of three rowers and,
optionally, a cox. Two rowers will race in a
tub double, with or without cox, the third
rower will be in an Alden single. Every team
should include: a man, a woman and a
junior
|
|
3. The challenge:
|
The first boat (either one) must complete a
circuit of the figure-of-eight course, round
both buoys. On completion, each rower must
perform a 'trick' (from the list below). Once
the trick(s) has(have) been performed, the
'baton' (a tennis ball or similar) must be
passed to the other boat, which must do the
same, i.e. a figure-of-eight lap followed by
a 'trick' by each rower. The whole process
will be timed from 'Go!' to completion of the
last 'trick'.
A team without a cox will have a suitable
amount added to their final time.
|
|
4. The spectators:
|
Will be enthralled by this spectacle, but
will also be engaged (nice word!) with the
Barbecue which is going to be provided by our
esteemed President, Mr Goldie, at a price per
person yet to be announced but assuredly very
reasonable. No doubt, refreshments will also
be available.
|
|
5. The final:
|
The two fastest teams from the first round
will contest a final, head-to head, in best
'Jeux Sans Frontieres' fashion, in an amended
version of the first round.
|
|
6. Seeding:
|
If the Race Committee sees fit, time
penalties might be levied on teams that
appear to be selected with too little
Corinthian spirit.
|
|
7. The tricks:
|
This list is not finalised, but the tricks in
the final list are the only ones that will be
allowed. The different tricks will carry a
time value that will be deducted from the
final time, if they are completed
successfully. If the trick is not properly
done, a lower value, or none, will be
deducted.
- 'Slap' water with both blades 30
times
- 'Cycle' hands 30 times forwards, then
30 times in reverse
- Perform 360 degree rotation
- Dip alternate riggers in water 30
times
- Rowers in tub swap seats
- Rowers in tub swap oars between
positions
- Take one oar out of the swivel and
hold it vertically
- Stand up in boat
- Stand up in boat and turn round
|
That's it for now - watch this space!
