After a lot of consideration we have made the unpleasant decision to cancel this year's event.
We received entries from 9 clubs including a massive entry from Clydesdale, but by this morning we still had 50% of the events contested by only 2 crews. This is after efforts to move crews into other events wherever possible, including trying to use GRC crews to make events viable . We had a further dozen events left where only 1 crew was entered.
Regrettably, have decided that we would rather not put the regatta on than run an event that would fall below the standard we want to set. We would like to emphasise that this decision was made purely on consideration of the quality of the event; this decision is not a financial one: the value of the regatta to us is measured by the standard of the competition it provides and we felt that that standard was not going to be good enough on this occasion.
On behalf of the Club and the Regatta Organising Committee I would like to offer my thanks, and apologies, to all the rowers who offered to take part and to their clubs for putting those entries forward and to the Umpires who offered to officiate.
