Congratulations" The St Andrew Boat Club would like to pass on its congratulations to Lindsay Dick for a magnificent achievement in winning Bronze at the recent World Championships in the Womens Lightweight 4x." We wish her continued rowing success!" (received 2/9/2006) The World Championship Regatta at Dorney is the pinnacle of the 2006 rowing season.![]() FINALLY! this picture of Monday's heat, and a few more like it are available for perusal and possible purchase from the nice people at Big Blade. Lindsay at 2 and Hester Goodsell at 3. More info welcome. This is particularly true for GRC's Lindsay Dick, who has achieved more than any Scottish-based rower has previously done by representing Great Britain at senior international level this summer Already this year, Lindsay has competed at the World Cup regattas
in Poznan and Lucerne (she
missed out on Munich when her crew-mate was injured), but competing
in the World Championships takes her to an even higher level. Lindsay will be rowing in the lightweight women's quadruple scull, sitting in the '2' seat and making the tactical calls. As she says, "the crew now has to try and understand a Scottish accent". Monday (preliminary heats)In the heats of the Lightweight women's quadruple sculls, the Chinese crew set a probably unbeatable standard, winning heat 1 from start to finish and soundly defeating last year's silver medallists in the process. Lindsay at Lucerne. In heat 2, it was the British crew, with Lindsay in the 2
seat, that set the pace. China and GBR go straight to the final of the event on Sunday, as heat winners.
Wednesday (repechage)The repechage (rescheduled due to looming storms) saw Portugal trailing in last, as expected. They are now eliminated from the event. Denmark won comfortably, from Germany and USA who had their own very
close race over the length of the course. The Danes led by a length
by half way and had more than doubled the margin by the finish. Sunday 1:15 - the FINALGB were in 4th place at the 1000 metre marker (thank-you to the BBC, Eurosport and any other useless broadcasting corporation you can think of). By this stage, China led the field with clear water over Denmark and already looked unassailable. The Danes had a full length on Germany, with only a further few feet advantage on the British girls, with the US and Canada trailing. A concerted push through the 3rd 500 by GB put them a full length in front of Germany with 500 to go, and almost in contact with Denmark. Meanwhile, the Chinese were going even further ahead. In the last 500, in front of the roaring grandstands, The GB bow began to reach up the length of the Danish boat, but not quickly enough and it was silver for Denmark, with Lindsay and her GB crew mates collecting bronze. China's gold medal time of 6:23 was another new world best time, 6 seconds faster than the record which they themselves set in Monday's heat. Lindsay's crew improved their heat time by 8 seconds - not bad for their second race together, and within a second of the previous WB time!
